There are two foods I remember missing on consistent basis during my time in Tokyo: Burgers and Pizza. Although I like trying food from all over the world, I'm always happy to sit down and eat a good burger, or try out a new pizza joint. So naturally, when I stumbled across Basically Burgers in Doylestown, PA today, I was excited to see what they had to offer.

I should be honest in saying that I am probably not your typical burger consumer. While I enjoy a classic bacon cheeseburger, I really love trying unique blends of toppings and sauces. Also, you should know that I typically eat very healthy, so the quality of a burger is important to me. For these reasons I was pleasantly surprised by what Basically Burgers had to offer.

As I was walking in the front door I was greeted by a sign that declared the burgers sold here to be "Gluten Free, Hormone Free, Grass Fed", all of which is important to me. Perhaps another time I can share more of why I care about these things, but for now I'll say that it satisfies my desire to eat higher quality meat, and my desire to see animals humanely treated.

Although the interior of the shop wasn't anything too impressive, it was well lit, clean, and had fun/interesting murals decorating the walls. Most tables were made to sit between two and four people, but could easily be arranged to sit larger parties if needed.

What was most impressive was the combination of a diverse/delicious menu with very reasonable prices. The options ranged from a classic burger to gourmet options like Black and Blue burgers, Caprese Burgers, and a handful of interesting concoctions I'm excited to go back and try. In addition to these great choices there were also hot dogs, salads, wraps, and a handful of delicious sounding sides.

My wife and I settled for a Caprese Burger (A burger topped with fresh mozzeralla, fresh basil, and a balsamic vinaigrette) and a custom built "mini" burger for my wife with her choice of toppings, cheese, and sauce. We also ordered a basket of Sweet Potato Fries for good measure. The total bill was $11.50, which seemed very low for two people.

The food didn't take long to arrive, probably about ten minutes from the time we ordered, and the well chosen playlist provided good ambiance. I should also add that the staff was both friendly, and professional, adding to the comfort of the experience. When our food arrived, I was a bit disappointed with the size of my burger, but then I remembered how little I had paid for it. I had ordered a single patty burger, while most options were double patty. If you have much of an appetite, I'd definitely recommend the bigger burger.

Both of our burgers were cooked just the way we asked, and tasted delicious. The presentation was simple, with a plastic basket holding each of our orders, but it seemed sufficient for a burger joint. Perhaps the best part of the burgers was the quality of the meat. The burgers were juicy, but not greasy, and had a great flavor to them. The sweet potato fries were definitely above average, with a delicious batter on them and being just the right balance of crispy without being burnt. While both of our portions were fairly small, the sweet potato fries made up for the difference leaving us satisfied without being over full.

Overall I would say that this is a great option for anyone looking for a quality burger, especially if you are trying to stay within a budget. The ambiance was a bit below average, but was clean and moderately comfortable just the same. I'd recommend this place to a friend, and hope to go back again soon to try out some of the other interesting/unique burger options they have available.
